Description

Savory Crockpot French Dip sandwiches offer a mouthwatering journey through slow-cooked beef perfection. Rich, tender meat nestled in crusty rolls pairs deliciously with au jus, promising a comfort meal that satisfies deeply and invites you to indulge.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein:

  • 34 pounds (1.41.8 kilograms) beef roast

Flavor Enhancers:

  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 0.5 onion (sliced)

Liquid and Bread:

  • 4 cups (960 milliliters) beef broth
  • 6 hoagie rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare a spacious crockpot and season the beef generously with salt and pepper. For enhanced depth of flavor, quickly sear the meat in a scorching skillet until golden brown on all surfaces.
  2. Place the seasoned beef into the crockpot and pour beef broth, worcestershire sauce, garlic, and onion around the meat. Ensure liquid covers approximately two-thirds of the beef.
  3. Cover and cook on low temperature for 8 hours or high temperature for 4-5 hours until meat becomes incredibly tender and easily pulls apart with minimal pressure.
  4. Carefully remove beef from crockpot and use two forks to shred meat into delicate, succulent strands. Return shredded meat back into cooking liquid to maintain warmth and moisture.
  5. Split french rolls lengthwise and lightly toast until edges become crispy and golden. Layer shredded beef generously onto each roll.
  6. Optional: Sprinkle provolone or swiss cheese atop meat and place under broiler for 1-2 minutes until cheese melts and develops slight caramelization.
  7. Strain remaining cooking liquid into small serving bowls for dipping. For richer consistency, whisk cornstarch with cold water and mix into broth until desired thickness is achieved.
  8. Serve immediately with warm au jus on the side, allowing guests to dunk sandwiches as desired.

Notes

  • Elevate flavor by searing beef in a hot skillet before slow cooking, creating deeper caramelized notes that enhance overall taste profile.
  • Resist frequent lid opening during cooking to maintain consistent temperature and trap essential moisture and flavor development.
  • Customize sandwich experience by experimenting with different cheese varieties like provolone, Swiss, or sharp cheddar for unique taste combinations.
  • Transform recipe into gluten-free version by using gluten-free rolls and ensuring broth ingredients are certified gluten-free for sensitive diets.
